Amber Murray 2026, BSN, RN

After spending 7 days in the hospital, I have acquired an entirely new respect for that very critical person they so casually refer to as “The Nurse”. I don’t think anyone ever plans a visit to the hospital or looks forward to spending much time there, which can make a hospital stay a very difficult and lonely endeavor. I did not realize until after my recent visit just how much of a difference the nurse can make. If you had asked me prior to my last stay, “How would you describe the functions of your nurse?” I would have said they come into your room, administer tests and medications, and check on your general well-being. I would have said I have no idea how they work with some of the most difficult patients while bearing a smile and a cheery “Is there anything else I can get for you?” During my last stay at Einstein Hospital, I found the nurses to be much more than just these things. Every one of the nurses took the time to get to know me a little bit better than just a patient, and a difficult one at times. I actually felt a loss after I left the hospital, like I lost a group of close friends. The time that they took to get to know me kept me in much higher spirits since I felt surrounded by friends and not just hospital staff. While every nurse on the floor contributed to a more comfortable stay at the hospital for me, I can’t begin to say how much I appreciated the time Amber took to share life experiences with me. Turns out we had much in common, which helped me to deal with my own issues. Her interest in me helped me get better more quickly and made me much more comfortable in the hospital. I really did miss the staff after I left. I wish I could do more for them after all they did for me. I never realized how much it all helps at a time like that. While every nurse I met was truly awesome, and while it is so difficult to pick one nurse that I think outperformed any others, in my case, Amber made the biggest difference for me. I think it’s as simple as the extra time and interest she took in me that made me feel that little bit of extra care and concern. Amber would be my selection for the DAISY Award. I found her to be an outstanding nurse with an even bigger personality. She has my vote. In summing it all up, I once would have said that nurses are incredible human beings, but they’re so much more; they're Angels.
