July 2026 Honoree
Amber N. Miller, MSN, RN, RNC-OB, RNC-IAP, C-EFM
Amber was my labor and delivery nurse for my second child. I went into triage with headaches at 36 weeks pregnant and was concerned about preeclampsia. She was very supportive and helped me work through the need for an induction that night. She helped me through contractions and labor, and was there for the birth of my baby. She stayed several hours past her shift to make sure baby and I were both okay.
Recently, my wife gave birth to our second child at Saint Joseph East's Women's Hospital in Lexington, KY. In the years following the birth of our first son, which was at a different hospital, my wife and I have frequently discussed things that we didn't like about his birth story - things that, in hindsight, we would have liked to have been done differently.
Of the many wonderful things that stood out about the birth of our second child at Saint Joseph East, Amber Miller was at the top of that list. Amber provided us with excellent care while at St. Joe. Not only is she a knowledgeable and trustworthy presence during labor, but Amber is also a fierce advocate for her patients, giving parents an immense power over their child's birth story. She understands the Inherent value in connecting with her patients, understanding them and the vision for their birth story, and honoring that vision with her care in any way possible. She is an expert communicator, a patient caregiver, and an encouraging voice in what can be a very intense, stressful time. Several times throughout my wife's labor, Amber displayed a variety of insightful methods to keep things progressing.
Because Amber is such a patient-centered nurse, my wife was always in control of what she did and didn't do. The techniques that Amber was able to implement really helped my wife to control her labor. Amber was able to give us such ownership of our birth experience. Although her shift had already ended, Amber stayed with us for over three more hours afterward to see that our baby boy was taken care of. It's that type of intense dedication that makes Amber Miller such an incredible nurse. Because of Amber and the wonderful team at Saint Joseph East's Women's Hospital, my wife and I had an immensely positive journey in bringing our second baby boy into the world. For that, we are very, very grateful.
