Amber remembered this mom and helped her celebrate both the birthday of the baby she lost a year ago as well as the baby that just had a birthday and was in her arms.
Amber is the first nurse I met when I started on the Family Birth Center and I immediately knew that if everyone I was about to work with was even half as nice as Amber I would be okay. We quickly became friends throughout our orientation to the hospital and I was able to see what an incredible nurse she was before she even stepped in a patient room. She has this special quality where she makes every patient she cares for feel like they are the most important patient on the floor. I have had countless patients tell me what an incredible nurse Amber is and how she went above and beyond for them.

Amber one time cared for a mother whose infant had passed away during labor. She formed a special bond with this patient and when that same patient came back exactly one year later Amber came into the hospital on her day off to bring this patient a card and let her know that she was thinking about her. The patient was extremely moved by this act of kindness and thoughtfulness.

Of the many nurses I have since worked with since graduation I believe Amber is at the top of the list for nurses deserving of this award and I know many of my coworkers agree. Below are reasons my coworkers gave me for why they feel she is a DAISY Nurse.

"Everyone needs an Amber on their team. She’s hard-working a great teacher smart has a good heart and is so kind. Amber is always willing to help and is appreciative of those who help her. She is a wonderful leader and patients speak very highly of her. Thank you Amber for being an incredible coworker and human!"

"Amber is a joy to be around her patients are so blessed to be in her care. She is a role model by always having a positive attitude and orienting postpartum nurses on our floor."

"She’s always smiling and lifting others up with her compliments and praise constantly!"

"Amber is an incredible nurse and coworker. A few words I’d use to describe Amber include: kind compassionate approachable safe energetic and a leader. She is an advocate for postpartum/nursery care on our floor. Amber does many roles including precepting all new orientees postpartum charge nursery nurse and postpartum staff nurse. Amber is the person we go to with any and all postpartum-related questions. Patients adore Amber and the compassionate care she provides. All of our staff members that deliver their own baby request to have Amber as their postpartum nurse. Amber is an active member of the Family Birth Center’s Unit Based Council and is always trying to improve our unit."

"Where do I begin with why I believe Amber is a DAISY Nurse? She is the most kind caring nurse and friend. She is there whenever you need her. She could have the busiest assignment and still manages to help you out when you’re in a rut. She takes on any role whether it be a floor nurse nursery nurse or charge nurse and she does it with such passion. I aspire to be as great as a nurse and friend as she is one day. She deserves every single award there is."

"Amber is such a special person coworker and nurse. I had the honor to have Amber as a preceptor on postpartum. I could not have handpicked a better nurse to train me for my first job as a nurse. Amber taught me more than basic nursing skills. She showed me how to go above and beyond for our patients. Having a baby whether it be your first second or third is terrifying. Amber has a way of making our patients feel safe heard and special. Making their experience a little less terrifying. As I said, she goes above and beyond for her patients. A great example of this is when Amber took care of a mom who had a fetal demise almost a year to date. She was currently in the same hospital having another baby, one that she was going to be able to take home. Amber remembered this mom and helped her celebrate both the birthday of the baby she lost a year ago as well as the baby that just had a birthday and was in her arms.

Amber has one of the biggest hearts and is not only amazing with patients but also with our coworkers. She has trained most of the nurses on postpartum and is one of the most senior staff on postpartum. Whenever anyone has a question about a patient on postpartum Amber is our go-to nurse. She is always willing to help and be an extra set of hands or eyes. She also always has a great attitude and tries to make the best out of every situation. I can honestly say that I would not be the nurse I am today without Amber’s expertise and guidance. She is someone I have always looked up to and will continue to look up to."
