I brought my husband, R, into the emergency room. It was determined that he had an aortic dissection and needed emergency surgery. Unfortunately, the OR was in use and would be for several more hours, but the staff didn't think he would last that long. They decided to transfer him to Mercy Hospital as they had an open OR. We were petrified and unsure of what was going on when Amber told us she would go with us.

R said all he could remember was that in the ambulance she held his hand and constantly reassured him he was being taken care of. Amber met each family member at Mercy and got them to the right place in the hospital. It was extremely calming to all of us. I don't think I would ever be able to thank her for her compassion and excellent care. My husband still talks about his angel nurse, who never let him feel alone. She is an exemplary caregiver; we are lucky to have met her.
