Amber had cared for this patient on a previous admission and established a great rapport with both the patient and her spouse. During this admission, the patient was newly diagnosed with cancer and given a very poor prognosis. While here, she "celebrated" her birthday, of which she was told would probably be her last. This broke Amber's heart and as she told me the patient's story her eyes filled with tears. She wanted to do something special for the patient being that it was her birthday and she was spending it in the hospital.
After work one evening, Amber headed to Wal-Mart in search of some snacks for the patient. However, not knowing the patient's preferences of snack foods, she was unsure of what the patient would like. Thinking about the conversations she had with the patient she recalled how the patient said she was always cold and felt chilled, so she came up with the perfect gift, a big fuzzy sweater jacket. This is just one example of how Amber shows a true love for the nursing profession and how she will go above and beyond for her patients. She is not only trusted and admired by her patients and families, but also by her co-workers.
