During one of the most frightening times of our lives, Amber gave my family something we desperately needed: reassurance. My dad had just undergone brain surgery as part of his journey towards remission. Although the surgery was successful, the days that followed were incredibly challenging. As part of his treatment, he was on extremely high doses of steroids, and the side effects were profound. He became agitated, emotional, and unlike himself. Watching someone you love struggle in that way is heartbreaking. Throughout it all, Amber remained a constant source of calm. Instead of seeing my dad's behavior as difficult, she saw the person behind it. She understood that what we were seeing wasnt who he is, its was the treatment, the surgery and the immense toll his body was carrying. No matter how frustrated or difficult he became, she met him with dignity and patience.
