Her exceptional care was demonstrated by the strong rapport she had built with our family in a short time. It was further evidenced by her compassionate and respectful demeanor.
Amber went above and beyond caring for my father. She answered all questions pertaining to his care & sought out clarification for things that were not within her scope of knowledge. Further, she ensured she was present for my conversation with the doctor, and then took the time to unpack the information with me in a way I could understand. Her exceptional care was demonstrated by the strong rapport she had built with our family in a short time. It was further evidenced by her compassionate and respectful demeanor, e.g., for when my father was experiencing hallucinations, rather than telling him, “No, there is nothing there,” she calmly responded. Then immediately notified his primary physician; during this time, she told me that while this was a common symptom and for me not to be alarmed, she wanted to notify the doctor. As the day progressed, I observed Amber not only attentively attending to my father's needs yet promptly responding to the needs of her other patients.
As an educator myself, I find it a noble trait to acknowledge when you do not know something, I asked Amber what the acronym for a test meant, and while she was able to explain the test, she could not remember what one of the letters stood for. Rather than simply brushing this off, she took the time to look up what the acronym stood for. This demonstrated to me her commitment to lifelong learning and her willingness to be vulnerable by stating she did not know something indicated to me her competency level, i.e.; only those genuinely knowledgeable are willing to say, “I do not know.”
Lastly, I observed her interactions with other team members- all of which were positive. I observed other members on the floor interact with patients and co-workers, and there was an observable difference in Amber's positive interactions. At times when there is a nursing shortage, it is essential for any hospital to have the best nurses on their floor, Amber is without a doubt an exceptional nurse and deserves the recognition of such.
