Hearing Amber say to Mom, "you’re the boss, tell me what you need and how I can help" was very reassuring to us.
Our 80-year-old mom fell and broke her right hip and wrist and was admitted to the orthopedic floor at Bellin. Mom was admitted with a UTI, was anemic, has A-Fib, and is on blood thinners which complicated an already difficult situation. She was also in excruciating pain between the two breaks and it was horrifying to watch someone you love be so miserable.
After surgery, she started declining and her WBC shot off the charts and her hemoglobin crashed slowly every day. She opted NOT to accept a blood transfusion and we sought out alternative ways to bring up her blood counts. Our dear Amber helped us navigate through an extremely stressful situation without being judgmental. Needless to say, we were mentally and emotionally exhausted. Amber's compassion and concern for Mom's comfort made such a great impression on us. She personally cared about Mom and it showed. She had so much skill in keeping us informed and explained options and ramifications. She also showed personal concern for us making sure during the long days we were up with Mom that we ate and drank. We knew when we left at night that Mom was in good hands under Amber's excellent care and attention to detail. Hearing her say to Mom, "you’re the boss, tell me what you need and how I can help" was very reassuring to us.
Amber went above and beyond the call of duty every day she came in to care for Mom. She did it with a smile and a positive spirit. We are impressed and grateful for her "beautiful soul". We cannot think of any better way to thank her for being the best RN Mom has ever had than nominating her for this award.
