Somehow nurse Ambria found a beautiful balance between staying professional and strong, but also compassionate and respectful of my raw grief.
After years of infertility, miscarriages, and IVF we were finally pregnant with our rainbow baby. At exactly 28 weeks gestation I felt a decrease in fetal movement so my husband and I came to Medical City Lewisville L&D to get checked out. Nurse Ambria was the nurse who found that our son, C, had no heartbeat and had died. I was a wreck. I remember screaming and sobbing. Many panic attacks and the deepest grief followed the news. Somehow nurse Ambria found a beautiful balance between staying professional and strong, but also compassionate and respectful of my raw grief. Over the next three days, Ambria was our rock the entire time. She advocated for me, and held my hand through the epidural. She was not intimidated by our grief. She was present during his birth and helped care for him after. I remember my husband and I felt so comforted by the care she provided despite us being in the worst imaginable grief and pain.

I'm currently pregnant again and admitted until delivery. I've been lucky enough to have Ambria again as my nurse! Still to this day she remembers details of my delivery and son and she doesn't shy away from honoring his life and my experience. As a loss mom, the most meaningful act is simply remembering our babies, even months or years later. I cannot think of anything that would ever adequately show our gratitude for nurse Ambria, but a DAISY Award is a great start. She was truly a light of peace and comfort during our darkest moment.

Now, I am currently being discharged after 3 weeks in antepartum + postpartum with our rainbow baby! Once again, Ambria played a beautiful role in welcoming our daughter.
