In Feb of 2019, Amelia MacDonald, RN assumed care of a postpartum patient who had just delivered and her neonate. The delivery was a difficult forceps delivery with a complicated vaginal laceration. Ultimately, the laceration had to be repaired in the OR, with a massive transfusion, and then an IR intervention and embolization of an actively bleeding vessel. Over the course of the 12-hour shift, Amelia was the team leader- she advocated for this patient, she recognized the emerging clinical signs of instability, and is the #1 reason this patient survived! She did this all while also caring for the newborn and being an excellent liaison between the OB team and the spouse. She is amazing!
