Amy stood right in the room with our family and cried with us. She stated, “This is what I live for; this is why I do what I do.”
My brother has been on 6NS for over 4 months now. Our world has been turned upside down—a completely healthy independent 29-year-old had one freak accident and is now suffering a severe brain injury. My family and I have been here with him every day praying and cheering him on with every small victory we have had. Nurse Amy has been right here with us along the way. She goes above and beyond for my brother and our family! When she comes into the room her spirit alone makes him light up. She is so patient with him and is never in a rush to get out of the room. The thing that sets Amy apart from other nurses is her compassion. The day E said his first words after not speaking for 3 months was very emotional. Amy stood right in the room with our family and cried with us. She stated, “This is what I live for; this is why I do what I do.” She was truly made to be a nurse—especially working with brain injuries. I have no doubt that she is like this with all her patients—not just us. This journey has been the hardest thing we have ever been through and truly all the staff has been amazing on 6NS. We could never thank you all enough for what you have done for our E. But, Amy is truly extraordinary and she deserves to be praised because nurses never get the recognition they deserve. Amy will always hold a special place in our hearts.
