Amie was one of the first nurses who took care of my 10-year-old daughter after she was hospitalized following a horrible accident. She took the time to check on my daughter even on days when she wasn't her nurse. When my daughter had a procedure done and went into respiratory distress, she used her exceptional clinical knowledge and made suggestions to keep her breathing without being intubated because she knew that was my last choice- and it worked! She kept me informed and by the middle of the week, I was asking the staff to go ask her opinion before I made decisions. During painful dressing changes, she played my daughter's favorite songs to keep her distracted and when my daughter could stand up and move, she made Tik Tok videos with her, which is my daughter's favorite thing to do! During the scariest situation of my daughter's life, she was able to get on her level. My little girl asks to go see her nurses all the time, especially Amie. She misses her and the other PICU nurses. That speaks volumes as it proves her time in the hospital was not all traumatic and she was able to separate the trauma of the accident from the treatment she received. The entire PICU staff was amazing, but Amie holds a special place in my little girl's heart and for that, she will forever be connected to mine.
