Amie's taking him outside was a big spirit booster for him and he had the biggest smile on his face when he came back inside.
We had a 19-year-old patient that has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and was vent dependent. Our patient had been in the same room looking at the same four walls for 2 months when Amie decided that she would coordinate a trip outside for him. It was a beautiful sunny day. She talked with the patient to make sure that he was up to the challenge. She then talked with respiratory therapy to see what would be the best way for him to go on the vent. Amie then spoke with physical therapy and went and found a stretcher that she could put him on to travel. After the coordination with all departments he was placed on the stretcher and taken outside. Being vent dependent he loved to communicate with his mother and brother by texting via his electronic devices. During the trip outside, Amie placed sunglasses on him and they took some selfies which they sent to his family. This was a big spirit booster for him and he had the biggest smile on his face when he came back inside. I feel that this nursing moment should be recognized. Amie is very deserving of a DAISY Award.
