I had come in late at night after being sexually assaulted the night prior and needed medical attention, but initially, I was not open about what had happened to me. I requested a female nurse/doctor, but the only doctors that night were male.

Amie didn’t leave my side and made sure I was as comfortable as possible, even before I opened up to her about what happened. I had to have a vaginal exam which is a very traumatic experience given what I had gone through the night before. I was clearly very emotional, but Amie was right by my side the whole time. When I came clean about what happened, she immediately comforted me and pushed to get me the resources to get help. I don’t think I would have had the courage to speak up if it wasn’t for Amie and how safe she made me feel. She dealt with me while I was a hysterical mess and held no judgment, just understanding, kindness, and care. I know it may be hard to understand the full scope of everything, but I will be forever grateful to Amie and the safety she provided me that night.
