Having to celebrate a birthday in the hospital is never ideal but having a staff member as compassionate as Amy helps, this was not the first time, Amy has done this for another long-term patient.
Amy has taken it upon herself to make sure all the long-term patients on the Burn Unit have been able to celebrate important milestones despite being in the hospital. This compassion goes way above her job duties, as Amy has initiated and coordinated catering, decorations, and invitations for patients’ birthday and graduation celebrations. Her caring actions have sparked hope in our patients, their families, and our staff, and she deserves to be celebrated for that. Amy conveys the true passion of a nurse, and we are so thankful to have her on our team!

Amy has gone above and beyond for the patients on 6 East. Yesterday she surprised one of our long-term patients with a birthday party. She planned it in a theme he liked with food she knows he likes as well. Having to celebrate a birthday in the hospital is never ideal but having a staff member as compassionate as Amy helps, this was not the first time, Amy has done this for another long-term patient. It was an amazing gesture to witness.

Amy has gone ABOVE and BEYOND for 2 of our long-term patients who are adolescents. No matter if it was a birthday or graduation, she has made sure each of these individuals has felt special and celebrated during these milestones despite being in the hospital. Amy has provided food, decorations, and cake all out-of-pocket costs. She comes in on her days off to decorate and set up. Amy not only provides excellent medical care for our patients but holistic care as well. She does all these things not to be recognized but because it’s the right thing to do. However, we the staff feel she deserves to be recognized for showing compassionate care to all those who walk through our door. Go, Amy!!

Amy went over and above for a patient that has been hospitalized for over 160 days. He suffered severe burns and has had multiple surgeries. His 18th birthday was recent. Amy arranged a birthday party for him that involved staff, family, and even the Chick-fil-a cow! Along with the other staff on the Burn Unit, she made certain there were decorations, and a cake, and had Chick-fil-a catered. This act of kindness on behalf of the whole Burn Unit allowed the patient to celebrate a milestone birthday. I have no doubt this made the patient and his family feel like he not only had capable nurses caring for him but that he had caring people ensuring he was made to feel loved and secure. Amy epitomizes how great nurses treat their patients. She is not only a wealth of knowledge regarding burn care, but she truly cares for the WHOLE patient. This is just one example of how she (often) goes over and above for her patients. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
