December 2011 Honoree
amy beerens, RN, BSN
As Clinical Leader for 2 North, Amy assisted by providing direct care to a patient who was vomiting. Amy’s instinct prompted her to conduct a patient re-assessment as she felt that the patient condition had changed. The patient’s color was now pale, he was in pain, and vital sign changes. Amy promptly found the Hospitalist to report her assessment and concern for the patient’s overall current status. The hospitalist evaluated the patient and ordered the patient transfer to CCU. On an abdominal CAT scan the patient was found to have a large peritoneal bleed requiring transfer to facility with a higher level of care. Amy saved this patient’s life!
Thank you, Amy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
