February 2019 Honoree
amy blumenauer, RN
I came in DKA as an inmate from County Jail in an orange suit, with my leg shackled to the bed. I was accompanied/watched by two, armed sheriff's deputies at all times and know I must have been a sorry sight. Regardless of this, Amy threw herself into my care with dedication as well as managing her multiple other patients in an overloaded ICU without a single complaint, no comment regarding my status or smell. It happens I was released during my stay, and she was there to help me contact my family, hear my emotional outpouring, and generally cared about my well-being. Her kindness, compassion and tireless effort made a mark on my heart and I had to think of a way to thank her.
Thank you, Amy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
