Amy is an Extraordinary Nurse. I observed Amy taking care of a patient who had just been given comfort care orders. Amy took the time to bathe the patient, shave his face, comb his hair, lotion his skin, and brush his teeth. She also scratched his back when he asked. When I asked Amy if I could help her, her response brought tears to my eyes because at that moment I felt her natural compassion for others. Amy's response was simple, "No, I'm okay, but thank you. I just wanted to make sure I made him look really nice for his wife. She deserves to see her husband cleaned up nicely in his last few days." I watched Amy my whole shift show her patient love, kindness, and compassion. Amy is a beautiful example of what nursing is.
