I think Amy deserves this award for many reasons. When I first came to this unit I felt very alone and scared. Amy went out of her way to make me feel welcomed and really brought a smile to my face. Being only 25 and here during the holidays I really struggled. When Amy covered my side of the unit she always came and talked to me when she could. I felt so at ease and was able to open up to her which was quite shocking for me.
Amy told me about her hidden talent at one point and wrote a cool rap about me getting better. For Christmas, her daughter made a Christmas card for a patient and she gave it to me which, between us, made me cry. It was so sweet that she picked me to give it to when I was feeling so down. Another time she popped in just to check in when she was on the other side of the unit. I felt special and important. Everyone is great on this unit, but Amy was my biggest cheerleader.
Then just yesterday my anxiety hit a high point and Amy sat with me and just let me sit in silence but in few words said what I needed to hear to calm down. Again, she wasn't even my nurse but happened to find me crying. I'm not really sure what it takes to receive one of these, but I really think Amy deserves one. Because of her, I feel so much more confident that I'll be okay when discharge comes tomorrow. I will never forget her kindness. Even if she doesn't receive the award, someone tell her I said "thank you" and I will always remember our talks from silly things like last names to more serious things like me being scared of what my life will look like.

P.S. If you ever see me again I hope it's me walking all on my own! Also thank you for the surprise rap you left after my panic attack. I'll be saving it.
