We had an elderly patient on Med Surg who had been there for five days and knew she would be there for at least another week. The patient’s black lab, who was “her entire world,” had been home alone. The patient’s neighbor had been feeding the dog reluctantly, and the patient was concerned the dog wasn’t actually being fed or wouldn’t get fed if she stayed in the hospital. Amy Campagna volunteered to swing by the patient’s home and take care of the dog while the patient was hospitalized. The patient was in tears and so appreciative of the assistance. Kudos to Amy for stepping in to help out a patient in need!
