I could not be more enthusiastic about my recommendation for Amy to receive a DAISY Award. After observing the performance of hundreds of nurses, she is clearly serving her patients and their families at an elite level.
We have been at AMBH for 72 days and counting, right after our baby was born over 2 months premature with several heart defects. By now, we have worked with more than 100 care providers, and I can state with certainty that Amy stands out among her peers. She went above and beyond to welcome us to the CICU and made us feel at ease as we were terrified, anticipating our tiny baby's open-heart surgery.

Amy perfectly blends humor, compassion, and instruction. During our CICU stay of over a month, she was the most communicative with us about our daughter's treatments and test results. She went out of her way to make us and our baby comfortable. For instance, without us asking, she brought a Mommaroo to our room and set it up for our baby to sit in, which made us very happy to get our baby off her back rather than just lying in bed. That is just one example of all the items that she would bring to make our very sick daughter more comfortable. Amy definitely has a unique style and ability to connect with parents and ease our anxiety while also making us laugh and feel good about the rollercoaster ride we are on.

We also observed her interacting with other nurses and doctors, and we saw how knowledgeable, experienced, and comfortable she was in advocating for the best care for our child. She was very involved in recommending care and describing the behaviors she saw while treating our baby. That instilled confidence that she was very attentive and tuned into our baby's condition and needs at all times.

Last, it is clear that this nurse is well-liked by her peers and serves as a mentor and role model to other nurses. We would notice how often her colleagues would ask her questions and for assistance. Amy was always willing to help others while ensuring our baby was safe and secure.
