She was so compassionate in relating to my aunt, who could not see, hear, or understand very well. She told me my aunt's gratitude and attitude had "made her day."
Recently, my Auntie was taken to the ER from Mayo Residential Care. As I spent time with her during that visit on a Sunday afternoon, we had a great conversation while the doctor and nursing staff were running tests to see what was going on physically for her. From the moment I walked into the ER, several made comments about how sweet my aunt was and then Amy came into our room. She was so compassionate in relating to my aunt, who could not see, hear, or understand very well. She told me my aunt's gratitude and attitude had "made her day." After caregiving for her for ten years before placing her in Mayo, I knew exactly what she was talking about. Amy's bedside manner was above and beyond. At one point, I discovered she only had one hearing aid in. Amy and I searched for the missing one, to no avail. I decided I would call Mayo, and sure enough, the missing hearing aid was sitting in her special dish on her dresser. Amy's interaction with me and my aunt was exemplary. If I ever had to be in the ER, I would want Amy by my bedside! Later that same day, Auntie was readmitted to the ER, non-communicative and with very low blood pressure. It turns out she had a pulmonary embolism and passed away that night. What a blessing to have a nurse like Amy for my aunt's last day of her life.

Note: This is Amy's 2nd DAISY Award!
