Amy stayed there with me, alerting me to changing status and what was coming. She kindly let me know that the team had opted to call an ambulance "just to keep you safe," and she explained why things were happening.
I rolled into urgent care at 10 pm completely terrified - I had lost all feeling in my left leg below my knee. I didn't know what to expect (was hoping for some Tylenol and crutches), and because we had a 9-year-old in the car, my spouse had to leave me at urgent care alone. Nurse Amy came to greet me quickly, had already read my chart (from a consulting nurse call an hour ago), and moved me along quickly with a chipper, "We're just going to skip triage for now." She was honest and straight with me, letting me know I would likely be transferring to Swedish for an MRI which allowed me to make arrangements for work the next day, along with allowing me to mentally prepare for what was ahead. As different clinicians checked in, Amy stayed there with me, alerting me to changing status and what was coming. She kindly let me know that the team had opted to call an ambulance "just to keep you safe," and she explained why things were happening. I encountered many caregivers that night and in my subsequent 10 days of hospitalization, but I will never forget that Amy took the time to make sure I knew what was going on, what it meant, whether I should be concerned, and that the team had it all under control. She laughed with me and took the time to care for me emotionally at a scary time. I can't thank her enough.
