Once Amy received the go-ahead to administer tPA she gave the drug all within 7 minutes from arrival!
Recently, Amy Davis helped to change the course of one of our patient's lives forever.
This 78-year-old male was working out at the gym when all of the sudden he became completely flaccid on one side. EMS was immediately activated and a "CODE STROKE" was initiated in the field. Our stroke team was prepared and waiting in our emergency department to assess the patient immediately upon arrival. The patient arrived at approximately 1106 and was transported to CT by Amy. It was discovered the patient had a HUGE large vessel occlusion which was causing his debilitating symptoms. Once Amy received the go-ahead to administer tPA (clot-busting drug) she gave the drug all within 7 minutes from arrival!
The patient initially arrived with an NIH of 10 which is considered VERY debilitating on the stroke scale and most patients go through months and months of rehab. BUT due to the doctor and Amy's quick and thorough care, the patient received the best care possible in a VERY short amount of time. The patient was transferred to Medical City Fort Worth where he underwent a mechanical thrombectomy. I am proud to say this patient was discharged from MCFW with an NIHSS of ZERO!!!!
Amy is one of the kindest, most thoughtful, and most thorough nurses I have ever met. She is always calm, cool, and collected even in the most stressful situations. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
