One of our patients was placed on comfort care, and the family wanted to have the body donated to a medical school. Amy spent 2 days researching Michigan schools to find out who was accepting donations, what the process was, and if the patient was eligible. She then called all of the local funeral homes to find the best price for transporting their loved one. Amy then took the time to sit down with the family and explain their options. All that was left for them to do was sign the consent forms Amy had prepared in advance. Amy showed compassion to this family by relieving them of the responsibilities that normally come with arranging a body donation, and she did it in addition to her regular charge nurse duties. She truly went above and beyond, and was even commended by the MSU staff for her attention to detail.
