I would like to nominate Amy for a DAISY Award for her strong assessment skills and prompt care at a true L&D emergency. Amy was able to quickly recognize an amniotic fluid embolism and facilitate an emergent delivery in less than 10 minutes. Patients with an amniotic fluid embolism have a 50% mortality rate. However, Amy was able to recognize and advocate for a rapid and appropriate treatment leading to a positive outcome for mom and baby.
Amy continued to provide superior care and attention to her patient throughout her recovery and transfer to ICU for further monitoring and treatment of DIC and amniotic fluid embolism complications. Amy stayed 4 hours over her shift to ensure her patient was well cared for and to thoroughly document the emergent event and subsequent complicated recovery.
