Amy was an excellent nurse. The other nurses spoke highly of her, and you could tell that she was a leader in the ICU.

Amy was our nurse two days in a row during the morning. The experience that was very moving to me is how, after the second day of Amy’s caring for my dad, and I think my mom finding comfort and relief from her, my mom asked if Amy was going to be our nurse the next day. Amy responded that she was working in the ICU the next day but was assigned somewhere else and wouldn’t be my dad’s nurse the next day.

The thing that really showed me that she cared was that Amy came and checked in on us the next day. This was after we received news back from an MRI that my dad wasn’t going to be able to make a significant recovery from the brain injury he had suffered following cardiac arrest and loss of oxygen. I’m not sure if she knew that we had just gotten this news, but it really was perfect timing to come and check in on us. It showed me a level of care that was above and beyond the standard, which, from our experience in the ICU, was already really high with all the great nurses and physicians there.

It made this difficult time a lot more manageable. Thank you so very much.

This experience showed me that Amy really did care about her patients and their family. I think her being there for my mom gave my mom, for the first time, the opportunity to express out loud the possibility of no longer having her husband. I think this was an important moment in my dad’s care, because it allowed my mom to be open to the severity of my dad’s condition.

 Amy came back to check on my dad when my mom asked optimistically if Amy would be our nurse for a third day, and even though she wasn’t, I think, just because my mom had asked, Amy made time to check on him and my mom. 

This experience was really impressive to me and showed a lot of compassion during a truly difficult time in my family's lives. Thank you.
