Amy Wimmer went above and beyond for one of our patient's family members. Our unit had a devastating code with an unfortunate outcome. The patient's family came to say their final goodbyes to their loved one which included the patient's young nieces. As the young nieces left the room, they were visibly upset and tearful. Amy immediately went into action to make sure these young girls were comfortable and "distracted" while the rest of the patient's family was saying goodbye. Amy took the time to talk with the girls about their favorite hobbies, Disney princesses, and cheerleading. She grabbed popsicles for the girls and let them print out coloring pages to take home with them. The excitement and joy on these little girls' faces was something that I think everyone needed to see. It was heartwarming to see Amy take the time to help these young girls through such a devastating time for the family. The family came out very appreciative of Amy and I know Amy had a significant impact on the family but more importantly the young nieces. During this code, Amy also went around to every patient on the unit to check on them and administered medications that were due while their nurses were helping with the code. Amy demonstrated compassion, kindness, and teamwork which is what being a great nurse entails. I am lucky to work alongside Amy and the unit is even more lucky to have her! She makes sure that her patients and their families are well taken care of and are seen and heard. Amy embodies a DAISY Nurse because of the incredible nurse and person that she is.
