Amy Funke, BSN, RN, is more than just a professional-great RN. She is a fantastic human who encapsulates what every patient would hope for in a medical professional. The unique thing about her is her extraordinary, kind soul shining through. She cares, works harder, and does far more than what is required or expected of her. Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital is very fortunate to have such a consummate professional. 

I had a total hip replacement a few months ago. Amy was the lead nurse and conducted the pre-surgery class instruction. She taught me the importance of preventing complications post-surgery, what to expect and how to prepare. A few days after my surgery, I noticed a portion of the incision become irritated and red around the dressing. Being armed with the information from the class, I knew it might be an infection. I called Amy and left a message explaining the condition. She called back promptly, listened carefully, and reassured me it was most likely a reaction to the bandage and that it was better to have it examined at the doctor's office.  What happened next has left me impressed ever since our phone call. With Amy's infinite number of patients, she spent time with me to ensure that I had scheduled an appointment.

I have NEVER had someone help me on the phone as Amy did. Although this act could seem small and expected of someone else, it was significant and unexpected. I am blown away by Amy's ability to do her job in the excellent, caring manner she did with me.  Amy's efforts helped change my life and my outlook on many things. Because of Amy, Memorial Hermann has earned my TRUST.
