Amy understood the clinical situation was tenuous and advocated that the patient's mother should hold the patient before they leave for CHOP.
Amy is an example of what an incredible nurse should be. She is dedicated, skilled, compassionate, and a role model to all clinical staff. Her continued support and hard work as the NICU transport leader have been such an impactful part of the program. Not only is she an incredible leader but she is an even better patient/ family advocate. Amy was called to be the NICU transport RN on a very critical transport from an outside hospital. She arrived to the hospital and was part of the team that was trying to stabilize the patient so they could safely return to CHOP for intervention. Amy understood the clinical situation was tenuous and advocated that the patient's mother should hold the patient before they leave for CHOP. She knew the patient's mother would not be able to travel due to her own medical issues so this may be the only time that she would be able to do so. Amy communicated her concerns and effectively collaborated with the rest of the team to safely transfer the patient to the mother's arms so they would be able to have a few minutes to make memories. Because of Amy's compassion, critical thinking, and overall excellent nursing care, this mother and patient were able to bond and make memories since the mother was unable to be present when the family decided to redirect care for this patient. Amy always puts her patients and families first and continues to deliver exceptional care in all of her roles at CHOP. She deserves to be recognized for her amazing compassion and care.
