Amy even brought me special shampoo and conditioner that she bought herself for me to use.
I had the most excellent nurse when I was in the hospital before my heart transplant. I was only supposed to be in the hospital overnight for tests so that I could go back onto the heart transplant list. It turned out that my heart failure had become so bad that I was not well enough to leave the hospital. I was hooked up to a Swan and numerous IVs for over two weeks waiting for a heart to become available. Amy was so welcoming and compassionate. When she found me in tears because I was having problems with the way that something was being done, Amy sat right down and talked with me, found out what the problem was, and was able to set up a schedule that worked everything out for me.
Another thing that Amy did was that she knew that it was a beautiful night outside so she offered to take me down to the Peace Garden with the night lights on so that I could get some fresh air. Being out of my room on that beautiful night really helped to lift my spirits.
Another time, when I told her how dirty my hair felt after over 2 weeks of not being washed (except for the shower cap washes which worked well at first but after 2 weeks not so much). She arranged for me to have my hair washed while in bed. She tracked down a special container meant just for that. She even brought me special shampoo and conditioner that she bought herself for me to use. I felt so much better with clean hair. My heart transplant was done the next night. After my transplant, she even came to the floor that I was on after her shift was over to see how I was doing. I will always be so grateful to Amy for the care and compassion that she showed to me during a difficult time in my life. You should be very proud to have nurses such as Amy on your staff.
