I have been a nurse for 25+ years and have seen a lot of complacency recently. Amy brought us a breath of fresh air. She is the epitome of a patient advocate. I think that is a rare gift today. My mother-in-law was admitted with a GI bleed due to an ischemic bowel episode. Amy was kind, compassionate, and went above and beyond to make her feel safe and comfortable. She wasn't afraid to call the Hospitalist for the small things. We wanted to go from clear liquids to full liquids, and she got the order. Then when a clear liquid tray arrived, she called food services to get a new one. My MIL felt safe in her care. I just want to make sure that she knows how refreshing it was to see a nurse with the morals and confidence to do the job the way we are meant to. Please encourage her to continue to advance her education and become a critical care nurse. She would be great! Mom says "ditto" for sure!

I was admitted through the ED for pneumonia and Amy was my nurse. She has shown me the efforts of a well-informed, caring, personable, and just a very pleasant nurse. Amy is an asset to MHG. The doctor who admitted me was unreachable after Amy's tireless attempts to contact him on my behalf. Well into the next morning, she didn't forget about me. Shortly after she came on duty, another doctor saw me, added a needed medication, and ordered needed tests. Amy prepared me for those tests while also keeping watch on my IV replacements, other meds, and other needs. She never made me feel as if I were a bother or that it was an effort on her behalf at all.
I know without Amy as my nurse, I would have felt so alone, and I would have been in so much pain and mental anguish having nowhere else to turn. I am so grateful to her for her extra efforts. I'm sure she sees it as normal for herself, as an extraordinary medical professional. She doesn't realize she is as great a nurse as she truly is. But, when you are very sick, scared, and in a lot of pain, Amy was a blessing to me. I think she should be given this award because of its meaning. Amy is a shining example of who we, as patients, hope to be lucky enough to get for our nurse if we have to be admitted to a hospital for an illness. Again, thank you dear Nurse Amy, now I do know what is on the inside of some, also shows on the outside. Kindness, beauty and a quiet confidence. She chose the perfect profession for herself. God bless you, sweet girl.
