Amy demonstrates notable passion for the profession of nursing and for her patients, such as when she agreed to speak to her peers in class regarding health education and promotion, and health determinants. Amy highlighted the importance of patient education, noting that she has seen it transform care and the health outcomes of her patients, and even the health of her own family. She shared a personal story of her grandmother and how the healthcare system failed her. Amy used this lived experience to learn how she can better serve her patients and ensure that others are not lost due to preventable diseases. Amy clearly articulated the lasting impact of proper patient education and helped her classmates understand the importance of patient education, health promotion, and prevention. She was able to help her classmates take these concepts into 'real life', particularly regarding social determinants of health. Her vulnerability and passion for equitable patient care have made a lasting impact on students and on us as faculty.
