My father had a heart attack and after going to the Cath Lab was admitted to ICU. My mother decided to stay the night with my dad. At about 2 O'clock in the morning, my mom did not feel well and ended up collapsing. She was down and didn't have a pulse. Code was called and she was able to come back, the MD leading the code wanted my mom to go to the ER to get evaluated further. My mom was insisting on not going down as my dad was in the ICU and she wanted to stay with him. Not only did Amy who was not my dad's nurse convince my mom to go to the ER, she stayed with her in the ER until she knew we were on the way.
My dad ended up having a triple bypass and was back in ICU. Every bypass surgery has risk but my dad's was even riskier due to his EF being extremely low. He ended up getting a balloon pump placed the day before his surgery. Amy was his nurse that night. My dad was feeling really down. We were so glad to see that Amy was his nurse that night. Amy stayed with him all night long, he had a million questions to ask, some just silly ones, but Amy stayed positive, kept a smile on, cheered him up and answered his questions. She even made him coffee twice as he thought his first coffee didn't taste right. These are a few little things, but they didn't go unnoticed. Amy is very knowledgeable and was able to use that to help my dad calm down and get ready for his surgery. After his surgery, Amy was off while he was in ICU but when he got transferred to the floor, she came up to the floor to check on him a few times. Amy really is an example of the FOCUS values: Sense of Ownership, Compassion, Communication, Commitment to Co-workers, Positive Attitude and Responsiveness!
