At the beginning of May, we had many Nursing Celebrations, including the System Celebration at the Marcus Majestic Theater in Brookfield. I was touched to witness one of our nurses showing compassion and truly "going the extra mile" for another caregiver. Many times we just think of the care we provide our patients, but great care doesn't have to end there.

Amy Konet-Nagel (our NPDC chair) exhibited that spirit at the System Celebration. A nursing assistant named Willie, who works at Sinai, was being recognized that evening, and wasn't able to attend, as he was scheduled to staff that night. A few minutes after Amy arrived to assist in the setup of the event, Amy received a call that the unit had made arrangements for him to be able to attend, but he had no transportation. Amy immediately went to work looking for transportation arrangements. When all possibilities failed, she left Brookfield, picked him up at Sinai, and then returned with him. She recognized that all caregivers should get the recognition they deserve, and went the extra mile(s) literally, to make sure he got his recognition. Especially touching was that he was overwhelmed by the recognition, and was able to share that he will be retiring next year, so if it hadn't been for Amy's efforts, he may have never had this kind of recognition. It was wonderful to see how much this meant to him! Oh, and he won a raffle as well!

Thank you Amy, for reminding us that the "best practice" doesn't always have to be for our patients!
