She took the time I actually needed to see through my fear. She sat next to me and was honest, educating me through the wisdom gained from being a nurse.
It felt like I was being pushed into a daydream. My feet have still yet to fully touch the ground. I was scared. I was really scared. Cancer was about to change my entire life. All the nurses on the eighth floor at Rhode Island Hospital know how I feel about them. They are collectively my heroes. They each have taken turns in my seven hospitalizations and have cared for me. They are my inspiration. We should all live by their nursing values. Amy Lasky has known me since my very first admission. She took the time I actually needed to see through my fear. She sat next to me and was honest, educating me through the wisdom gained from being a nurse. I’ve never had someone hold my hand and ask me if I was scared. She already knew. She helped me understand and gave me a full, real picture of what was happening to my life and my body. She took the time (her time) and she literally gave me hope. This is an amazing gift. Amy’s nursing skills are without question. I feel she’s a mentor, a leader, and a badass kind of person. She still visits me whenever I’m hospitalized. She is a proud, amazing nurse. She deserves recognition for her ongoing nursing effort. Yes, I am still scared, but less so. I am thankful, grounded, and hopeful because of Amy, and all of the nurses like her.
