A veteran was in clear mental distress from the secure messages he was sending to the team. Amy made several attempts to call the veteran, but was going straight to voicemail. Amy sent a secure message to the veteran and left her direct extension to call back and talk. The veteran did just that. Amy had an over an hour-long discussion with the veteran, which left her in tears as she listened to the veteran pour his heart out over the phone. Amy carried the weight of this veteran's emotions on her shoulders. The veteran had thoughts of suicide but no plan, and did not want to talk to anyone else. The veteran just wanted medication and EMDR treatment. Amy sat there, listening, being someone the veteran could trust and confide in. The veteran eventually agreed to a PCMHI/MH consult. Amy saved this veteran's life. The veteran reached for treatment at the Dayton VA and is now receiving the treatment he deserves.
