Amy demonstrated a tremendous amount of persistence and empathy in helping this family and giving them hope for recovery.
I want to express how truly compassionate she was in dealing with the situation and helping this mother who was truly motivated to help her child in need while the typical path was failing them.  Amy advocated for this family from the beginning, just to get SASS to see him.  And after SASS saw him and only offered resources, Amy assisted the mom with getting him into an inpatient program straight from the ED.  Which I've never seen happen after SASS has said a patient can be discharged. I'm sure she did even more than what I know about.

This is a population that so many people say this isn't the right place to get help for this.  That substance abuse needs to go through the behavioral health channels and we are medical.  Amy did not.  She truly wanted to help prevent this child from making this the rest of his life. She truly demonstrated compassion, empathy, advocacy, and kindness. It was inspiring.

Amy provided extraordinary care and empathy for a recent 16-year-old SUDS patient who was brought in unconscious after an accidental overdose. His mother had been trying to get him inpatient help but was unsuccessful in getting him Petitioned, and she was desperate for help. Amy not only provided the compassionate care this patient needed but was also a significant support to his mother.  They worked together to help find a center that would be willing to take his admission and ensured that he had resources, including Narcan, at the time of discharge. This was no small feat, as SASS had evaluated that there were no options for admission. Amy demonstrated a tremendous amount of persistence and empathy in helping this family and giving them hope for recovery. Thank you for leaning in and helping when others said it couldn't be done!
