Amy then accompanied the patient to the ER and stayed with her the entire time making sure her needs were met.

Amy was on the on call nurse for our agency on Saturday. One of our Hospice patients was having uncontrolled nausea and vomiting. She made a visit to the assisted living facility where the patient resided; the patient felt that she had swallowed something and it didn't go all the way down, which has happened before. Multiple attempts were made to relieve the nausea with no results.

Amy called the leader on call and advocated for her patient to go to the ER to assess the situation. Amy then accompanied the patient to the ER and stayed with her the entire time making sure her needs were met and that her wishes of not receiving any treatment that was not necessary. When it was decided that the patient's condition was quickly declining, Amy made arrangements to have the patient transferred to the hospice house where she could have around the clock nursing care, have her symptoms controlled and die with dignity.

Amy went above and beyond to meet this patient's needs. She is a very kind and compassionate nurse that would say she was just taking care of her patient, but I think it went way beyond that.
