When M finally regained consciousness, he responded to Amy, who showed immense empathy towards both him and me. Her quick actions and exceptional bedside manner left a lasting impression on us.
One night, my son, M, was not seeming like himself, but nothing seemed concerning until it quickly escalated. Suddenly, he became unresponsive and limp. In a panic, I shook him and called his name, but there was no reaction. I immediately dialed 911, suspecting he was having a seizure. Knowing we were only four blocks from the hospital, I informed the dispatcher that I would drive him there instead of waiting for an ambulance. They assured me they would notify the hospital of our arrival. I placed M in the front seat and rushed to the hospital, fearing the worst.

Upon arrival, I carried him inside, leaving my vehicle running at the entrance. The Patient Liaison promptly directed me to trauma bay two and even parked my car, ensuring I didn't have to worry about anything. There, I found Amy Mezera and another nurse working diligently to place IVs in my son's arm. Despite my distress, Amy was incredibly compassionate. I remember her grabbing my hand to hold his while she inserted the IV, managing to do so swiftly and start fluids. At that moment, we were still uncertain about the cause of his seizure, as he remained unresponsive with his eyes rolled back. Amy checked his rectal temperature, revealing a fever of 103°F, indicating a probable febrile seizure. Throughout this ordeal, she remained a steadfast source of support, placing ice packs around him to help cool him down. She communicated clearly about what was happening and what to expect next. When M finally regained consciousness, he responded to Amy, who showed immense empathy towards both him and me. Her quick actions and exceptional bedside manner left a lasting impression on us.

Fast forward almost two years, when M woke up struggling to breathe and coughing without relief. I rushed him to the emergency room, where I was relieved to find Amy on duty once again. She went above and beyond to ensure we received the care we needed. M was diagnosed with croup, a condition we had never encountered before. Amy took the time to explain everything to us in detail. Her kindness and approach made such an impact that M followed her instructions without hesitation. After multiple nebulizer treatments and X-rays, we were discharged, and the next morning, M excitedly talked about Nurse Amy and said he wanted to go see her again. Unfortunately, M had another visit to the ER the next month for a finger injury. However, he was completely at ease, eagerly anticipating seeing his favorite nurse, who always took such great care of him.
