We cared for a 14-year-old male who was a pedestrian of a hit and run car traveling approximately 50 mph. The patient suffered a skull fracture, right arm fracture, bilateral tibia/fibula fractures, and possible other injuries. This patient was unresponsive and intubated on arrival to the ER Department. After 1 hour and 20 minutes, the patient was transported to the Children's Hospital. However, the parents were not allowed back until the time of transport.
When the parents and family were allowed back, Amy took excellent care of this patient. She stayed with the patient, placing her hand on the patient and on the family, providing prayer for them. At this time, I felt this was 100% what this patient and family needed and felt it was beautifully received by this family.
Amy demonstrated excellent nursing care medically, and then went above spiritually for this young man and his family. I myself find providing this for a family more difficult than nursing care in itself, and Amy did this beautifully.
It is not just the providers and the nurses that this patient needed, and it was not just the patient that needed care. His family did too, and Amy provided all of that today!
