She took the time to really listen and look at the bag. We honestly believe that she saved my husband.
Amy Perdue was my husband's nurse. My husband had his gallbladder colostomy bag changed, which we thought went as planned, but he was hospitalized two days later with an infection. Intervention radiology had come and checked the tube and the bag. They flushed it up, but not down. He said everything was OK, and he ordered a scan. I wasn’t impressed with the lack of knowledge of the background of my husband when the doctor came in so when Amy came back in the room she asked if they come in, my response was that I was upset that he didn’t read my husband chart before coming in and he seemed to be less than engaged. She said I’ll look at the bag. When she looked at it, she noticed that the bag had been hooked up upside down. She took it apart and put it back together, and immediately, fluid came out of the tube into the bag. We had told everyone that nothing had come out since Wednesday. She took the time to really listen and look at the bag. We honestly believe that she saved my husband. My husband is terminal, so I know his life is short, but every day, every minute is precious to us. Amy didn’t talk badly about anybody; she was reassuring and extremely transparent. I know she reported it immediately because a doctor called and referred to the bag being upside down. She handled herself so well that, although a mistake was made, we felt heard, and it made us still feel that we were in good hands. I’ve seen Amy during my husband's hospitalization, and she is friendly and kind. She has laughed with me and she’s cried with me. She truly is a blessing to our family.
