Amy took care of our 2 lb. 10 oz. preemie as if he were her own child. From simple things such as basic care and cleanliness, Amy showed love for our child. Every time she was our little one's nurse, he was so clean and attended to. It seemed as if every time Amy was there, our son thrived.
One particular instance, our son's nose, eyes, and face began to swell because of a new size of nasal prongs. The entire weekend, our son was in clear discomfort and began to desat more frequently. But on Monday morning, when awesome Amy was there, she immediately took charge and even said to us, "this is not going to work" and called a respiratory therapist and our child's doctor to make the needed changes to address the swelling. Due to her diligence, our son had a less invasive breathing treatment and NO nasal prongs!!
Another instance Amy showed genuine care not only for our child, but us as well was when I had a breast infection due to pumping. She sent me a picture of our newborn that day due to the fact I could not come in to see him because I had a fever.
She also called us if any treatment changes were made, alerted us if any progress was made, and kept us informed when a procedure was completed. Her attention to detail was the most amazing attribute, as we felt Amy truly loved our child and cared for our entire family during our 51 day care at Cook Children's. What an amazing blessing to have Amy as our nurse!!
