As a nursing leader, she consistently creates an environment in which both patients and staff feel supported, respected, and valued.
I would like to nominate my nurse manager, Amy Rodgers, for the DAISY Award. Amy comes to work every day with a smile and is always motivated to take on whatever issues or tasks the unit is facing at the time. As a nursing leader, she consistently creates an environment in which both patients and staff feel supported, respected, and valued. What truly sets Amy apart is her initiative to improve patient care and employee satisfaction. For example, Amy has been highly supportive of the PCU mobility initiative. This initiative has increased the number of patients mobilizing daily and successfully decreased the number of falls compared with prior years.
Also, when the unit recently learned that we may be at risk for acquiring a HAPI, Amy immediately sought our team members' input to create an action plan to prevent HAPI occurrences on PCU. Amy also takes the time to round on patients, ensures their needs are met, and addresses any gaps in a timely manner. Amy is willing to come in early and stay late if that is what is required. Because of Amy’s leadership, our unit is not just a workplace – it is a team that cares deeply for each other and every patient that comes through our doors. For these reasons and many more, I am honored to nominate her for the DAISY Nursing Leader Award.
Amy has been instrumental in implementing the virtual RN work at Ball. She first started helping build this new model a few years ago while she was still at the bedside in the PCU. Despite the project being pushed back a couple of times, she remained on the implementation team. As the manager on the PCU, Amy helped the project team build the standard work that Ball would use and worked to raise awareness within her team for the go-live. Once the VRN launched, Amy helped her team through the orientation and spent hours alongside them in the VRN room.
Despite challenges, Amy has advocated for her team's needs, supported them through the change, and fostered an encouraging environment where they can share frustrations and new ideas. As this project continues to spread, Amy has helped CPC launch their VRN by assisting with planning and offering encouragement. As other units launch, Amy and her team will remain instrumental to the success of this new care model.
