Amy goes above and beyond consistently to help her patients and co-workers. The most recent act of kindness was shown to a family who experienced a house fire. Amy met this family in the Emergency Department and immediately bonded with this single mother and her three children. Amy has never met a stranger, and the mother confided in Amy about the issues she was currently going through.
Amy took it upon herself to send out messages to collect funds, clothing, and household items for this family. Amy took it a step further by taking the mother and her family shopping. Amy used what she received from donations, as well as $500 of her own money. She shared pictures of the three children holding up their stuffed shopping bags with smiles from ear to ear. Amy said that the children told her how good it felt to have clothing that was purchased specifically for them. Luckily, I have never suffered a total loss of my possessions, however one can only assume that such a loss would have some effect on your self-esteem as well as your identity at such a young age. The stress the mother must feel trying to provide for 3 children alone is unbearable. I have no doubt that Amy changed their lives. Amy stated that she felt God's blessing by allowing her to meet this family and that it was the best $500 she spent in a long time.
Amy has shown numerous acts of kindness during her time at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She consistently goes out of her way for patients and co-workers on a daily basis. Amy has even gone as far as taking care of a patient's children when their mother was admitted and had no support system. These two examples show the type of compassion and dedication Amy portrays. Amy is a blessing as a friend and a co-worker and is most deserving of the honor to be the recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award.
