May 2018 Honoree
amy shepherd, RN
We had a patient in the ER being diagnosed with some terrifying neurological issues that required transfer to CMC for neurosurgery. The patient was a mother of five young children, one whom she was breastfeeding. The patient was worried about how she was going to feed her baby while in the hospital, as the baby had only been breastfed. She had no milk at home and this was causing increased anxiety. Two nurses approached Amy about possibly donating some of her breastmilk and she did not hesitate at all and agreed. The patient was beyond grateful for Amy's kindness and agreed to take the milk for her baby.
Thank you, Amy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
