The biggest thing that I admire her for is, she is full of life, energy, and enthusiasm. She just spread positivity with her infectious smile and good humor.
I am 60 years old, a retired US Army. I’ve been in and out of the hospital but I haven’t met a super vibrant, energetic nurse that showed personal interest even to the smallest response. She greeted me with a smile while making eye contact, that right there was letting me know that she acknowledged my existence. It makes me feel I am important. She asked me how I am doing. Just a casual question lightened me up. It is because of the deliverance of the question. I can feel the sincerity of each word. She told me not to worry, the doctors and the staff are there to be with me all the way to the process. She said being positive has a good vibe and is infectious. She seemed like a mind reader, and she explained to me why and what she was doing in layman’s terms. She actively listened to both my verbal and nonverbal cues such as my facial expression when I felt burning when she hooked up one of the antibiotics on my arm. She immediately switched off the clamp, and unhooked the tubing, and immediately placed the cap on the end of a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) that was attached to my arm. This is without saying a word. Clearly, she pays attention to detail. She listened to body language and communicated. She explained to me why I am still in the hospital waiting for the lab blood culture results for so many days now, when I can wait for the results in the comfort of my home. Her explanation showed her utmost commitment to not add worries to the patient and instead lift the spirit. She provided sound judgment by sharing her insights into what she learned and experienced while listening to my input. She gave me the pros and cons. Finally, the biggest thing that I admire her for is, she is full of life, energy, and enthusiasm. She just spread positivity with her infectious smile and good humor. She promotes patient safety and quality care. She was explaining how easily a person can fall during the shower, so she showed me the string to pull just in case I needed help. She acted like a superhero and said, "If things happened, do not hesitate to pull the string and I am coming to you like a superhero." Little things put together can make a big difference in the life of others.
