Without Ana's help, after her shift had ended, it would have been very difficult to care for the patient overnight.
I was working with a Spanish-speaking patient, who was admitted in the late evening on 5W, who was very hard of hearing making it very difficult to use the telephone interpreter. It was after normal business hours, so an in-person interpreter was not available. Ana, when she heard I was having trouble with the interpretation, volunteered to stay after her shift had ended to aid in interpreting for the patient so that our medical team could understand the patient and he could understand us. Without Ana's help, after her shift had ended, it would have been very difficult to care for the patient overnight. Ana volunteered without question and wouldn't let me send her home even though it was after her shift had ended. She stayed to ensure the patient was safe, understood our communication and there was a patient care plan in place. She went above and beyond to ensure the patient was handed off safely to the night nurse. I wanted to thank her and the team for their exceptional nursing.
