Ana oversees the Nursing Office, house supervisors, travelers, and transporters. St Bernardine Medical Center relies on Ana to provide adequate nursing staffing levels at all times. She is a master at her job, does it efficiently with great skill and with genuine care. I am fortunate to have her on my team because I know that Nursing Units will get adequate staffing and that it will get done in a fiscally responsible way.
On any given shift, Managers might go home, leaving behind an adequately staffed unit, only to learn within several hours that those staffing levels have shifted due to sick calls, peaks in an influx of patients, or any other unforeseen condition. Managers can count on Ana to make the necessary staffing level adjustments time and time again. Ana uses a "hands-on" approach to do her work, stepping in to temporarily perform the function of others to fill the gap.
Her workday begins before she even sets foot at SBMC. She makes sure she is aware of the staffing conditions of the day, and immediately begins formulating a mitigation plan. This happens regardless of the day of the week. Without a doubt, every Nursing Director and Manager has received text messages or phone calls from Ana, and at any time of the day, forewarning of staffing adjustments needed for the day. Ana does this often times at the expense of her personal time. You can forget about her accepting a "thank you" because she will quickly reply "I am just doing my job". Ana is skilled at working with a diverse set of personalities. I think we have a broad spectrum of those here at SBMC, and Ana is able to work with every single one.
Ana is a great steward of the staffing resources, makes tough decision on staffing, sometimes living with the consequences of those decisions, and earning a love-hate relationship with nursing leaders. Ana does her job with the best interest of the hospital in mind, and ensures the safest staffing levels for our patients.
Ana has demonstrated exemplary leadership in her daily work, and I believe her to be a true DAISY Nurse!
