Anca Spektor is a nurse who is kind, intelligent, and very hard-working. My father has baseline dementia but can play it off well. He was admitted to 5LE, where Anca was his nurse for his very short stay. She took the time to get to know my father and treated him like family. During today’s times, nursing has shifted more away from the bedside to other tasks. Not Anca. She answered every question he had, call bell or chair alarm, and reminded him repeatedly not to get up without calling for his own safety, as he already wanted to try to leave before he arrived on the floor. Anca also shared some personal information about herself, which helped me feel like I am not alone in caring for my father, who has dementia and is slowly declining. She knew having my dad have a prolonged hospital stay would cause more harm than good for his overall well-being. She helped me push for a fast discharge while also addressing his health issues. Towards the afternoon, we both could see my dad was getting agitated while waiting and just wanting to go home. Anca didn’t give up on getting him out of the hospital and still had a ton of patience for him. Sure enough, she got him discharged from the hospital safely and efficiently. Anca is passionate, dedicated, and goes above and beyond for her patients. Thank you for all you did for my dad and all the support you showed towards me.
